Megan Azevedo, MSW - Expert couples therapy Jacksonville FL therapist

Hi, I'm Megan

Since 2005, I have been walking alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate complicated relationship dynamics. It is my passion to provide supportive, evidence-based therapy to my clients during life's most vulnerable moments. As your therapist, I commit to providing a safe, confidential, and judgment-free space where we can address communication, infidelity, betrayal, domestic violence, addiction, or any other challenge that is keeping you from the relationship you want.

We will learn practical skills for communication and conflict, then explore the parts of you that will bypass those skills when emotions get complicated.

For many clients, traumatic experiences or broken relationships earlier in life have a lasting impact on current relationships. For this reason, I will oftentimes incorporate trauma therapy as part of the couples therapy process. Healthy relationships occur when each partner is first healthy as an individual. We will take the time to understand what is at the root of whatever is coming up for you, knowing that real healing happens when we take the time to develop compassion for ourselves and our experience.

I have a Master's in Social Work from Florida State University (2011). I am trained in the Gottman Method, Relational Life Therapy (RLT), EMDR, and am a Certified Sex Therapy Informed Professional.

Still not sure? Let's talk. Finding the right therapist can be overwhelming. I offer free consultations where all questions are welcome. I would be honored to talk with you about your needs and help you find the support you are looking for.

Once your first session is scheduled, you and your partner will be emailed an online questionnaire. The questionnaire will give clarity on the strengths and challenges in your relationship to help us prioritize your treatment needs.

During our first session, I will meet with you as a couple and get a background on your relationship and what brings you to therapy. Next, I will meet with you each individually to make sure I have a thorough understanding of each of your perspectives before we begin our interventions.

Everything You Need to Know

What makes your approach different from other couples therapy?

I use proven methods like the Gottman Method combined with EMDR and trauma-informed care. Instead of generic advice, I create a personalized treatment plan based on your unique relationship dynamics and individual histories.

Can we do sessions online, or do we need to come to your office?

Both options are available! I see couples in-person at my comfortable Jacksonville office (2950 Halcyon Ln STE 202) and also offer secure telehealth sessions for couples throughout Florida. Many couples actually prefer online sessions for the convenience and comfort of being in their own space.

How soon can we start therapy?

Most couples can begin within a week. I offer free 15-minute consultations so we can discuss your specific situation and make sure this feels like the right fit before you commit to anything.

Do you work with couples who are dealing with infidelity or trust issues?

Absolutely. Rebuilding trust after infidelity requires specialized skills and patience. I help couples navigate the complex emotions, rebuild communication, and create a path forward—whether that's healing the relationship or parting ways with respect.

What if my partner is reluctant to come to therapy?

This is very common. I can start by meeting with you individually to help you understand how to approach your partner, or we can begin with a consultation where they can ask questions without feeling pressured. Often, one partner coming first can help the other feel more comfortable.

How long does couples therapy typically take?

Every couple is different, but most see meaningful progress within 8-12 sessions. Some couples benefit from longer-term support, while others resolve their main issues more quickly. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as needed.
